Men's Fragrances
Men’s Cologne & Perfume
In the US the terms perfume and cologne are usually presented as fragrances for women and fragrances for men. There is in fact more to these fragrance classifications. While some notes are considered more feminine or masculine for their olfactive profile fragrance type isn’t as simple. So, while you might be tempted to call some of the Ralph Lauren Men’s fragrances cologne, many are much more than that, please allow us to explain -
Eau de Parfum: Also known as EDP is a stronger fragrance type. With eau de parfums expect a fragrance oil concentration typically around 15-20%. Thanks to this higher concentration these fragrances typically have a greater longevity.
Eau de Toilette: Also known as EDT is not as intense a fragrance type as eau de parfum. An EDT will usually have a fragrance oil concentration of 5-15%. As a lighter fragrance these are great for the evening or if you prefer a more subtle scent.
Eau de Cologne: Also known as EDC tends to have a fragrance oil concentration around 2-4%. Historically eau de cologne referenced a recipe that used citrus and herb notes with minimal anchoring from base notes. While in the US cologne has become synonymous with men’s fragrances not all masculine scents are colognes. Colognes are great for leaving a nice hint.
Choose a signature scent based on intention. Whether the goal is leaving a long-lasting impression or a fleeting memory, find a fragrance that fits. Seasonality can also influence fragrance choices. During the warmer and hotter months floral, citrus and aquatic notes are ideal for Spring and Summer. During the colder seasons warm and spicy notes are a great choice. Woody notes such as sandal wood or cedar, and spicy notes including cinnamon or clove are some examples of good Winter and Fall scents.
